The talk commences with evidence for Roman Christianity in eastern England, moves across the Middle Ages, Reformation period, Victorian refurbishment of churches, and into the present day by looking at Pentecostal and charismatic churches.
Emphasis is on the materials, design, decoration and use of baptismal fonts, and how they have changed over time. The talk will be illustrated with lots of examples of wonderful fonts and churches, of all periods and religious movements.
The talk is part of a programme of events to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the LeicesterShire Historic Churches Trust. It is organised in association with History at De Montfort University, Leicester.

The event is a talk about the archaeology and history of baptismal fonts, and what it they show about changing beliefs and practices in the Christian religion over the last 2000 years, focusing on churches and chapels of the city and county of Leicester/shire.
